Welcome to Seminole County, Oklahoma

Seminole County is located in the southeastern part of Oklahoma, near the border with Texas and Arkansas, and is part of the Great Plains Region. The county was officially established in 1907 and is named after the Seminole Nation of Oklahoma, whose ancestors migrated to the land in the 1920s. The county covers an area of 835 square miles and its terrain is predominantly rolling hills and plains. The 2010 census reported a population of 12,837, and the county seat is Wewoka.

Industries in Seminole County include agriculture, manufacturing, and energy production. The county is home to two public school districts, Seminole Public Schools and Sasakwa Public Schools, as well as several private schools. Higher education opportunities are offered at Seminole State College and East Central University.

The county is home to several notable Native American historical sites, including the Seminole Nation Museum and the Historic Chisholm Trail Museum and Seminole Nation National Historic Site. Popular outdoor activities in the area include fishing, hiking, camping, golfing, and boating.
